Held during the annual Singapore International Energy Week, Youth@SIEW is a key outreach platform to engage tertiary students and educators on the latest energy trends and career opportunities in the energy sector. The theme for Youth@SIEW 2021 was “Seizing Opportunities in Singapore’s Energy Transition”. Ms Low Yen Ling, Minister of State, Ministry of Trade and Industry & Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth encouraged our youth to be part of this exciting journey and be the vital force in shaping Singapore’s sustainable energy future.
The virtual event provided insights on energy developments and challenges, and participants engaged in discussions with industry and government on their hopes for a low-carbon future and how we can get there with our energy transition efforts.
Youth@SIEW also featured exhibitions that showcased energy-related innovations by students from various institutes of higher learning.

Youth@SIEW is a key outreach platform to engage tertiary students and educators on the latest energy trends and job opportunities, held during the annual Singapore International Energy Week. The theme for Youth@SIEW 2020 was “Seizing Opportunities in a New Energy Landscape”.
The event allowed participants to engage in meaningful discussions with industry and government on energy issues and the importance of innovation and co-creation in achieving a more sustainable energy future, as well as gain insights on energy developments and challenges.
Youth@SIEW also featured exhibitions that showcased energy-related innovations by students from various institutes of higher learning. For 2020, the projects were along the themes of Decarbonisation and Digitalisation.

2019

Youths play a critical role in shaping Singapore’s energy future that is increasingly digitalised, decentralised and decarbonised.
Youth@SIEW is Singapore’s milestone energy platform for students to exchange ideas and discover new innovations that would be transforming how we keep the lights on and gas flowing. As part of Singapore’s young energy movement, participants shared their aspirations with more than 300 of their peers and energy industry leaders!
Event Highlights
- In Dialogue with Youth: Discussed Singapore’s energy landscape and emerging career opportunities with senior government and industry leaders.
- Youth Energy Showcase: Featured new innovations from fellow students, and learnt about exciting career opportunities in our energy sector.
- Sembcorp-EMA Energy Challenge (SEEC): Learnt how to balance Singapore’s Energy trilemma as school teams competed with one another in an intense online energy competition.
2018

Youth@SIEW 2018 concluded with strong participation from more than 400 students, educators and industry partners.
Industry captain Mr Kwong Kok Chan (Deputy General Manager, Maintenance, PacificLight Power Pte Ltd) took the students for a walk down memory lane and shared about how the energy sector had evolved over the years, as well as the exciting yet meaningful careers they could embark on upon their graduation. This nicely complements the launch of our refreshed Skills Framework for Energy and Power (SFwEP), which maps out skillsets for more than 120 job roles, across 11 tracks, in different energy areas including distributed generation management and cyber-security.
Students were also engaged in an interactive dialogue session helmed by SPS Dr Tan Wu Meng, Mr Kwong, Mr Leong Wei Hung (President, Shell International Eastern Trading Company), facilitated by Ms Melissa Low (Research Fellow, Energy Studies Institute), which shed insights on future developments and opportunities in the sector. 11 schools also participated in the Youth Energy Showcase, where students shared enthusiastically on their innovative projects to senior foreign and local delegates.

Youth@SIEW 2017 saw more than 420 students and educators engaged in an exciting dialogue of Singapore’s Energy Future that would be shaped by the “3D” trends of Decarbonisation, Decentralisation and Digitalisation. The audience had the opportunity to learn about the exciting opportunities in the sector through the sharing by industry captain and their peers. They were also engaged in an insightful dialogue session with Senior Minister of State, Ms Sim Ann, Mr Samuel Tan (Chief Digital Officer of SP Group), Ms Liu Xiaowei (Vice President, External Relations of Shell APAC), moderated by Mr Winfred Oh (Geography Teacher, Catholic High School). We also saw a total of 12 student projects hosted by students from the various Institutions of Higher Learning (IHLs) at the Youth Energy Showcase, graced by numerous foreign delegates and our respective Guest-of-Honour Ms Sim Ann and Ms Low Yen Ling.

Attended by 360 participants, Youth@SIEW, saw active participation from the students, educators and industry partners. The participants were engaged in an insightful dialogue session with Minister for Ministry of Trade and Industry (Industry) Mr. S Iswaran, Mr. Frank Phuan (Co-Founder and Director of Sunseap Group) and Ms. Valerie Lee (General Manager, Sembcorp Power). We also saw a total of 14 student projects from the various IHLs at the Youth Energy Showcase.
